Summary of PositionReporting to the Engineering Manager, the Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and supervising all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery.
The Controls Engineer will work with new technologies and control systems and will be involved in a wide number of projects.
This person will also be responsible for the installation and programming support of PLCs and software.
Essential Job FunctionsDevelops and executes regular engineering processes, documents work performed, works with program design and testing and troubleshooting.
Plans and performs work requiring electronic and mechanical theories and principles and writing specifications.
Manages the installation of electrical equipment including PLC's, sensors, instrumentation and drives.
Recommends maintenance, test procedures and standards, plans for equipment and material needs, and schedules and performs activities to ensure reliability of all electrical protection equipment and systems.
Installs, services, maintains, inspects, tests, repairs, replaces, disassembles, adjusts, and cleans electrical and related equipment and relays used to protect and control functions of equipment such as, but not limited to, circuit breakers, transformers, capacitors, telemetry, automatic switches, supervisory control devices, and indicating and recording instruments and using hand tools.
Develops clear and concise operator instruction manuals.
Identifies opportunities to improve plant performance.
Manages contract resources to complete approved projects.
Provides relevant training for control systems where applicable.
QualificationsBS in Electrical Engineering preferred or related field and/or 5-7 years of experience performing controls and automation operations work.
PLC programming, HMI programming, Ethernet network configuration, PID loop tuning (level, pressure, temperature, flow), motor and drive configuration and troubleshooting.
General understanding of electrical engineering.
Extensive knowledge of test equipment, electromechanical and solid-state relays, meters, computers, communications equipment, and proper wiring methods and practices.
Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams and drawings.
Ability to troubleshoot, make recommendations, and prioritize system improvements.
Demonstrated proper knowledge of safe testing, maintenance and repair techniques.
Comprehensive knowledge of mathematical computation procedures.
Demonstrated proper knowledge of safe testing, maintenance and repair techniques.
Considerable knowledge of the proper and safe use and application of tools, equipment and hardware.
